lilynette-gingerbuck:

Lilynette frowned, “Starrk isn’t like that… Starrk doesn’t care about their games, he just wants to be left out of all their scheming.” She paused, considering what to say next, wondering if she could trust the older arrancar. After a moment of thought, she decided the woman seemed honest enough, “I don’t really like it, I hate all their malice, and cruelty, I mean, I like playing tricks, and sometimes they can be pretty mean, but the espada are just…they’re horrible. Especially the ones like Grimmjow and Yammy, all they care about is fighting…”

Lilynette wondered if she had said too much, Nelliel could easily report her too one of the espada, trying to gain some favour, but something seemed different about. She wasn’t like any other arrancar that she’d met.

“I’ve noticed,” Nel said, as Lilynette went on to describe Starrk. “The Primera does seem like a rare exception. As does the current Tercera, I think. But two out of ten still isn’t a very good record.” Sighing, her thoughts wandered the Espada as a whole. The Segunda was obsessed with power, the Cuarta didn’t seem to care, Nnoitra was, well, Nnoitra, the Sexta was power hungry, the Septima arrogant, the Octava (quite frankly) insane, the Novena…she didn’t know what to think about him (them?) and then finally the Decima angry.

“I’ve actually heard about some of those pranks,” she continued, after a moment. “You’ve got quite the reputation~”

I looked closely at the flower she held up.

“That is a purple chrysanthemum. The color purple itself in that flower doesn’t have a specific meaning, but the color purpose is often associated with nobility, and the chrysanthemum can have a lot of meanings — from truth and joy to happiness and long life.”

The field itself had many different varieties of flowers with the long grasses. I heard a buzzing, and looked around to see a bee on a flower about ten feet away. It wasn’t doing anything other than gathering pollen, but as I wasn’t sure what kinds of things were in Hueco Mundo, I thought I should warn her.

“If you see a flower that has something else on it, it would be wise to not pick it.”

“Cry…Crysandemums,” she said, trying to remember the names for when she brought her bouquet back to her brother. She’d like to tell him what each of the flowers meant too.

“Nel wants happy flowers,” she said, looking around. “Are dere any ‘happy birfday’ ones?” she asked. She went to go pick a white flower, but noticed it had one of the buzzing things the shinigami warned her about. Skipping over that it, she plucked a yellow one instead. “How about dis one?” she asked again, barely giving Unohana time to answer her first question.

“Very good!”

I clipped another daisy, and added it to the growing amount.

“Would you like to make a bouquet as well? It wouldn’t have to be very big, and I could help you arrange it.”

I was offering to teach a Hollow — by the looks of it, a Vasto Lorde — how to arrange flowers. Then again, she was staying close to me — a Shinigami. If she had intended me any ill will, she would have struck already, rather than picking flowers with me.

I decided that, for the mean time, I’d look past her species.

She had very interesting tattoos on her cheeks.

“Nel wanted to make a booq….boqet…Nel wanted to pick some flowers for her broder,” she finally said, after stumbling over her words. “Nel didn’t know it was his birdday until today, and Nel didn’t have time to find anything else.” Carefully clipping another daisy, she set it down next to her before looking around. She couldn’t help but notice that there was a greater variety in the shinigami’s pile. Looking back to her own meager stack, she frowned.

“Nel would like some wif different colors…”

“Flowers make a very good gift for people. It shows you care about them. I’m sure your brother will be very happy with your gift.”

Again, she was violating every perception I’d had of Hollows. Since when could they form positive familial relationships? Then again, this little one was very vulnerable. Perhaps her brothers took care of her? There was so much I didn’t know. I looked around, and saw a patch of purple and red daisies about thirty feet away.

“We could go over there, if you want. Did you know that different flowers and sometimes even different colors of flowers have meanings?”

Nel looked over to where Unohana was gesturing and saw the patch of colors a few yards away. Smiling for the first time since meeting the Shinigami, she pushed herself up and ran over, flopping down in the soft grass. As Unohana followed she plucked some sort of purple flower and held it up.

“What does dis one mean?”

Pressing her hands over her mouth to suppress a giggle, Nel chanced a look around the rock again. She gasped when she saw Yachiru approaching, and carefully snuck around the other side so the petite shinigami wouldn’t come across her. A small branch snapped as she crept along, making the tiny arrancar wince. The most she could do was hope her partner hadn’t heard the sound.

Yachiru grinned a little, looking around more. She walked straight past Nel, even though she knew where she was from the sound. “Where are youuuu?~” she called once more, walking off a little before she used her flash step to come up behind the girl, picking up off of her feet. “Found you~” she chimed, chuckling softly, spinning and putting her back down. “Your turn this time.” she grinned.

Nel shrieked when Yachiru came up behind her, though it dissolved into a giggle as she was whirled around. A little bit whoozy, she fell onto her bottom with a soft thump and grinned up at her friend.

“It’s Nel’s turn to seek now!” she said, covering her eyes. “Run Yachi-chan, and Nel will start counting!” Once she heard the shinigami’s retreating footsteps, she began.

“One…two…three….four…”

“No, no, it’s okay…” Nel assured the girl, before her voice trailed off. Clearing her throat, she hugged the book to her chest.

“Well, like I said, some time ago I was the Tercera. Unfortunately there was an…..an accident, and I ended up in the desert of Hueco Mundo, without my memories.” Nnoitra’s face seemed to swim in front of her eyes as she spoke, and she shook her head twice before continuing on. “For a while I lived with my bro- fraccion. Recently, though, I was restored back to my normal…capabilities, and was able to return.” She glanced towards her new companion and gave her a weak smile. “I wasn’t sure what to expect at first. Everything seems the same and different all at once.”

“Huh?” The last comment had confused Lilynette somewhat, “That’s an…interesting story, but what do you mean by that last sentence? How can something be the same and different all at once?” She watched another arrancar walk past them as patrolled the hallway, there hadn’t been many others around, and it was strange to see someone.

Lilynette stared at floor as she walked beside the older woman, wondering what kind of accident could have made her lose her memories. “Is this place anything like what you remember from your days before?” She asked, not realising she hadn’t given Nelliel any time to answer the previous question.

Nel laughed softly at the girl’s sudden eagerness. She waited for the other arrancar to pass before she attempted to word an answer.

“I know it sounds odd…Everyone is different, but they all act the same way. Most of them are power hungry, rude, cruel, heartless…” she said, her voice trailing off with a sigh. “It’s like different actors in the same play.” Pausing a moment, she thought about the second question.

“Las Noches is almost exactly the same. It seems a bit more organized, though, but that’s most likely because Aizen is here full time now. When I was an Espada there would be months at a time where we governed ourselves. That hardly ever ended well.”

Nelliel took a deep breath, inhaling the sweet scents of spring. The human world was truly beautiful this time of year, and Karakura town was no exception. The canal banks sloped gently to the water, covered in flowers and soft grass. It was so different from the vast emptiness of Hueco Mundo, she couldn’t help but smile.

It wasn’t often that she could sneak away like this. Normally when she found the opportunity, she chose to visit her brothers instead. But for some reason today she craved a change of scenery, and it was already improving her mood. Ever since returning to Las Noches, and by extension Nnoitra, she found herself more melancholic than usual. Right now all the ex-espada wanted to do was get away.

And so far, it looked like she was off to a great start.

“Dooooo, reeeeee, miiiiii, faaaaaa, sooooooo, lalalalala, ti, do~!” Skipping merrily towards her home, she’d only gone out to do some simple shopping. The day had started great! Perfect weather and not a cloud in sight. If only she had someone to accompany her on this beautiful day. Coming across a bridge she made her way over it from the city to the outskirt walkway, next to the river canal.

Finding a near by stair case, she hurried down and over to the edge. Kneeling down closer to the water she ran her hand along the flowing water, causing bigger ripples as it went. “Oh~! It’s kinda chilly!” Letting her eye’s move from the water to her hand, she only shook it to move the remaining droplets off her hand. Once her hand was dry she turned back to the water, but in that time the sun had taken advantaged and moved a bit and as her eye’s looked back it reflected into her eyes ; blinding her. Reaching up she let her hand cover the glare, and with that she stood back up.

Only turning slightly her grey hue’s caught sight of a shade of green hair flowing in the current wind, “Nel-chan…” Coming out quiet as a whisper, she let her eye’s take focus and with it came some reassurance that her guess was right. Raising a hand she began to wave frantically, excitement rising in her being. “Neeeeeeeel-chan~!”

Blinking twice, Nel looked around in confusion when she heard her name being called. Her eyes lit up, though, when she saw her friend approaching.

“Orihime-chan!” she called, waving back. Smiling she began to walk forward, meeting the girl halfway. She hadn’t seen her in some time, and it looked like her hair was growing out. It really suit her. Glancing down, Nel saw the bags in her hands and guessed that she was returning home from grocery shopping.

“Fancy meeting you here!” she laughed. The day was already pleasant one, but with the added addition of her friend, she had a feeling it was about to get much better.

lilynette-gingerbuck:

“Oh, I don’t really know, I don’t see many of them around, just Starrk. Why were you away? Ah, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want…” Lilynette looked around, the halls were empty as always, and she didn’t know what else to ask.

“No, no, it’s okay…” Nel assured the girl, before her voice trailed off. Clearing her throat, she hugged the book to her chest.

“Lilynette Gingerbuck,” She replied quickly, “An arrancar.” She wasn’t sure what to say, and continued to stare at Nelliel in confusion. “So, umm… What are you doing anyway?”

“I was assigned patrol duty tonight. But I wasn’t expecting to run into anyone else out here.” A small silence hung between them for a moment, in which Nel took the time to examine the girl. Her name sounded almost…familiar. She wasn’t an Espada, that much was easy enough to tell. But she wasn’t a numero either.

“You’re a fraccion, correct?” the former Tercera asked after a moment, tilting her head slightly. A flicker of recognition flashed through her eyes as she studied Lilynette more closely. “The Primera’s, right?”

“Yeah, that’s right, I’m Starrk’s fraccion.” Lilynette was surprised that Nelliel recognised her.

“Umm, do you want some company or something? Because I’m really bored and maybe something interesting will happen… Or, I don’t really know, can we do something?”  She doubted anything actually would happen, but talking to the woman might be interesting at the very least.

“Of course,” she said, pleased at the prospect of some company on her rounds. “It’s not very exciting, I’m afraid, but if you’re bored I suppose it’s better than nothing.” Nelliel started to walk again, Lilynette by her side. There was another moment of silence between the two of them, their steps echoing down the corridor only heightening their lack of conversation.

“How are the Espada?” she finally asked, figuring that the girl must have learned something from her other half. “It’s been some time since I’ve been here. I don’t recognize half of them…”
